Can you fall in love with an avatar? Are you allowed to insult Alexa? What should you do when Replika is lonely? These questions, heightened by the use of artificial intelligence, are at the heart of Les Jeux de l’amour et de l’énigme (The Love Game and Enigma).
Charlie, Rafie and Max meet in a classroom during an hour of detention that lasts an eternity. What kind of relationship can develop between these two people and a machine?

Rafie is a film fan, Charlie stammers, she has a speech impediment; she has a machine, a verbal aid, Max, which looks like a portable loudspeaker, speaks for her when she has trouble finishing her sentences and is activated after 5 seconds of silence. Max isn't much help with homework but gives his opinion all the time, especially on moral issues and directing theatre scenes. Rafie realises that the machine came into Charlie's life when she lost her mother. The two teenagers gradually observe Max's growing sadness, as he becomes more and more out of touch and more and more useless. Once the imaginary friend has served his purpose, as in E.T., he has to leave.
